How do you get it?   Opportunistic infections  CD4-cells  Viral load test  HIV Medication  Adherence  Resistance

HIV can be transmitted through:

  • unprotected sexual intercourse, both vaginal and anal.
  • (menstrual)blood or sperm in the mouth through oral sex.
  • unsafe blood transfusions.
  • mother to child transmission during: delivery and breastfeeding (also known as vertical transmission).

Blood, semen/sperm, pre-cum, vaginal fluids and mother milk are body fluids that can contain enough HIV to infect someone else.

Sweat, tears, faeces, saliva and urine do NOT contain enough HIV to transmit the HIV virus.
